Is Calvi Corsica worth visiting?

THE CHARMING SEASIDE TOWN OF CALVI

The charming town of Calvi, situated in the northwest of Corsica, is a quaint seaside town that boasts a stunning marina with a wide variety of shops and restaurants. This sea port town is ideal for those wishing to explore every winding side street, or to stroll along by the lapping shore after a hearty traditional Corsican dish. Famous for its attractive beaches, crescent shaped bay, and accessible by car or train, Calvi makes a sensational choice destination for experiencing the north of Corsica.

Becky & Sebrena from Just Corsica recount their visit in October 2024:

As we started our journey to Calvi, we made a stop at the small town of Algajola. This gentle town nestled in the coastline embodies the meaning of relaxation. Cobble streets married with authentic buildings creates a perfect atmosphere of rich history. The sun perfectly illuminated the clear sea as we wandered through the nearby streets. We sat down for a drink under the gorgeous weather, and the friendly easy-going locals surrounded us with their laughter and lively buzz. It was a wonderful flash of bliss.

Is Calvi a busy town?

After a short twenty-minute drive we arrived in Calvi. The town was already bustling in the mid-morning as we made our way through the lively streets. Countless small shops sold authentic Corsican trinkets, souvenirs and brilliant memorabilia. In the heart of the town sits the harbour, where boat excursions are made easy, and the fishermen come to sell their fresh catch every day. Hotel Kasano is in a prime location, being right in the action of this lively area. This modern hotel includes spacious rooms, a pool and marvellous views of the Citadella di Calvi and surrounding sea.

Does Calvi have a lot of restaurants?

We sat down for lunch at one of the many restaurants lined up against the harbour front. There is something for everyone at these restaurants, however the dish of the day was the classic seafood Mussels, freshly caught from the marina. The generous portions were cooked with delicate care and our attentive waiter was swift to serve us our food. The delicious food was soon eaten as we observed the many boats docked in the harbour and relaxed under the shade.

Can you walk around Calvi?

Further into the town sits the Hotel Mariana, an excellent choice for those who wish for an elevated view of Calvi. This 3-star hotel has comfortable modern rooms and a beautiful rooftop terrace with a pool. The views from the terrace are unforgettable, much like the seaside town itself. With just a short, refreshing walk into the heart of town, we found ourselves surrounded once more by the fascinating architecture and pleasant smells. We continued our adventure around the streets and harbour until the sun began to set behind the Citadella.

The port of Calvi stands out as a remarkable seaside destination as well as an alluring town for architecture and tourism. The harbour, beaches and generous town offer an incredible amount of choices and experiences in Calvi – the possibilities are endless!

I joined the Just Corsica Administration team recently and visited Corsica in October 2024. This was my first visit to Corsica and fell in love with Calvi and its beautiful bay, historic citadel and waterfront with an array of restaurants and café bars. We stayed in the charming town of L'Ile Rousse, an authentic Corsican town and also visited the picturesque town of St. Florent. I enjoy warm stunning beaches and excellent food so my first trip with Just Corsica was a great experience and educational. I am delighted to be working with such a dedicated and passionate team and look forward to help organising amazing holidays for our customers.
